Sipas Mehmetajt, arsyeja ishte pasuria e tij, edhe kushti i nënshkruar në kontratën martesore, ku nënvizohej se gruaja do të kujdesej për të deri sa të jetë gjallë.
Gruaja e cila u përpoq ta vr.iste është Arlinda Mehmetaj, pedagoge në universitetin e AAB në Prishtinë.
Pas një mbrëmjeje të qetë, ata shtrihen që të flejnë, por në orën 02 40 viktimës ia nxjerr gjumin jastëku në fytyrë dhe më pas ai vë re se ishte lidhur gjatë natës me litar këmbëve dhe duarve.
Ai kishte arritur të çlirohej nga litarët dhe kishdte zbritur në katin e parë të shtëpisë, por Arlinda ishte fshehur në një pjesë të errët dhe më pas e goditi me çekan në kokë disa herë ku edhe i kishte shkaktuar të çara në kokë.
