Me 25 dhjetor, 9 nga 10 familje festojë Krishtlindjet pa e ditur kuptimin e vërtetë të festës. Të gjithë i njohin ngjyrat që lidhen me këtë festë, stolitë e kuqe dhe jeshile, bredhi dhe parqet e zbukuruara. Por, origjina e saj vazhdon dhe mbetet një mister.
Edhe pse krishterët festojnë lindjen e Krishtit me 25 dhjetor, data e lindjes së tij nuk dihet ende ekzaktësisht . Në fillim të 300 viteve të krishterimit, kremtimi i lindjes së Krishtit zakonisht bëhej në 6 janar.
Sipas krishterimit të sotëm, ishte rreth vitit 273, momenti kur kisha vendosi që solstici dimëror ishte koha më e përshtatshme për të nderuar djalin e Perëndisë. Në vitin 336 pas Krishtit, Perandori Kostandin shpalli Krishtërimin si fe zyrtare, perëndimorët e kësaj feje zyrtarizuan festimet e 25 dhjetorit si lindja e Krishtit.
25 dhjetori është edhe dita e një feste tjetër. Në këtë datë festohet gjithashtu ditëlindja e hyjnisë indo-evropiane Mithra, perëndesha e dritës dhe besnikërisë.
