Organizata Botërore e Shëndetit (OBSH) është e gatshme të rishikojë rregullat për përdorimin e maskave në luftën kundër përhapjes së Coronavirus, pasi sipas studimeve të lëshuara në javët e fundit, virusi qarkullon në ajër në një mënyrë më të qëndrueshme sesa besohej fillimisht.
“Ne po studiojmë provat e reja shkencore dhe jemi të gatshëm t’i ndryshojmë udhëzimet nëse është e nevojshme” tha David Heymann, drejtuesi i panelit që merret me maska në OBSH, raporton BBC.
Deri më tani, Organizata, si dhe Ministritë e Shëndetësisë në shumë vende të botës, kanë rekomanduar përdorimin e maskave për ata që kanë simptoma ose ndihmojnë pacientët me Coronavirus. Vende të tjera i kanë imponuar ato si të detyrueshme në supermarkete ose në transportin publik. Por duke pasur parasysh vështirësinë në gjetjen e tyre, nuk është gjithmonë e mundur që të gjithë ta kenë një të gatshëm për tu përdorur.
Coronavirus transmetohet kryesisht përmes spërklave në ajër, por në spitalet me shumë pacientë që i nënshtrohen ventilimit mekanik mund të shpërndahet edhe nga aerosoli. Ndërsa pikat udhëtojnë 1-2 metra nga personi që i lëshon ato dhe menjëherë bien në tokë, aerosoli mbetet i pezulluar në ajër dhe mund të arrijë distanca më të mëdha.
Një studim i New England Journal of Medicine i publikuar në 17 Mars tregoi se virusi mund t’i rezistojë aerosoleve deri në tre orë, edhe nëse sasia e tij është përgjysmuar në një orë. Një eksperiment i Institutit të Teknologjisë në Masaçusets, botuar më 26 Mars vërejti që virusi udhëton si në pikat ashtu edhe në aerosolet, dhe se kjo e fundit mund të arrijë 7-8 metra me një teshtimë. Kjo do të thotë që edhe në dhoma të mbyllura dhe ashensorë të mbushur me njerëz, virusi mund të grumbullohej nëse shumë njerëz të infektuar qëndrojnë atje për një kohë të gjatë.
Për këtë shkak po mendohet që maskat të bëhen të detyrueshme, edhe pse në shumë shtete ka mungesë të theksuar të prodhimit të tyre.
